DELTA LAKE A difficult hike that includes some mild scrambling, but the end is worth it. Dress warmly and pack a picnic to enjoy on the lake at the top in Glacier Gulch, which is fed rock flour from the Teton Glacier, turning the water a stunning turquoise color.
GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK The first American to see the Teton peaks is believed to be John Colter, followed by French-Canadian trappers who gave the mountain range the bawdy nickname of “grand tetons,” or “big breasts,” which ended up sticking. Located south of Yellowstone National Park and north of the town of Jackson, the Grand Teton's 310,000 acres include lush valley floors, mountain meadows, and alpine lakes. nps.gov/grte/index.htm
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Yellowstone National Park covers 3,500 square miles of wilderness atop a volcanic hot spot across Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho featuring dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful.
