DELTA LAKE A difficult hike that includes some mild scrambling, but the end is worth it. Dress warmly and pack a picnic to enjoy on the lake at the top in Glacier Gulch, which is fed rock flour from the Teton Glacier, turning the water a stunning turquoise color.

GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK The first American to see the Teton peaks is believed to be John Colter, followed by French-Canadian trappers who gave the mountain range the bawdy nickname of “grand tetons,” or “big breasts,” which ended up sticking.
